Five Great North Shore Steakhouses You Need to Try Tonight!

New York is famous for great steakhouses, and the North Shore of Long Island certainly contributes to this reputation. From traditional old-fashioned establishments with mahogany walls and white tablecloths to modern establishments with sleek lines & contemporary decor, you don’t need to go much further than Northern Boulevard to get a great steak.

While there are many steakhouses on Long Island that deserve a visit at least once, I have compiled a list of 5 steakhouses I consider a must-visit when you’re on the North Shore of Long Island.

Peter Luger Steakhouse

255 Northern Blvd. Great Neck, NY

With its doors originally opened in 1887, this family-run steakhouse is known for providing the true “New York” steakhouse experience. Over the years, Peter Luger has made many “best-of” lists mainly for the simple quality of its entire menu.

My personal recommendation for all visitors is to start with Peter Luger’s bacon appetizer along with the beefsteak tomato & onion.  This appetizer is perfectly complemented with Peter Luger’s famous steak sauce.

Their mouthwatering specialty is a prime dry-aged porterhouse steak grilled to perfection and served alongside equally delicious sides.  My wife and I love the creamed spinach and Luger’s special German fried potatoes as a side.

By the time your steak of choice arrives, you’ll be overwhelmed with the simple complementary perfection of every flavor on the menu.

When you make it to dessert, don’t slow down.  Go for the chocolate mousse with Luger’s special homemade “Schlag”, which is their rich whipped cream.

Bryant & Cooper Steakhouse

2 Middle Neck Road, Roslyn, NY

The Bryant & Cooper Salad is a perfect starter: shrimp, string beans, & bacon!

Bryant & Cooper is the perfect image of a New York steakhouse with its woody interior and its cozy, unpretentious atmosphere. From the moment you enter the restaurant until the moment you finish your meal, the staff will remain attentive to your needs. So it’s pretty easy to say that you’ll have a comfortable experience.  Many local Roslyn & Manhasset families have standing Saturday night reservations and regularly celebrate family events in this familiar local restaurant.

As for the food, it speaks for itself. While their porterhouse steak for two, three, or four is a no-brainer, their prime sirloin and filet mignon are excellent alternatives. The steakhouse is also the perfect dinner location if you have a craving for outstanding seafood. You can have a crack at the stone crab claws or dig into mouthwatering linguine with white clam sauce. You also have options of sautéed corn, mashed potatoes, fried zucchini, and Lyonnaise potatoes to go along with the steak.

If you prefer to enjoy a Bryant & Cooper meal at home, visit their butcher next door to pick up your favorite cut of meat that’s custom packaged for your family. Their friendly butchers will give you specific instructions to make sure your meal is cooked to perfection!

Morton's Great Neck

777 Northern Blvd. Great Neck, NY

Established in 1978, Morton’s is one of the most famous steakhouse chains across the US. With more than 90 franchises and restaurants in the US and abroad, Morton’s is known for their prime-aged beef cooked perfectly to your preferred tenderness.

The high-quality meat and other items on the menu match the luxurious ambiance of the restaurant. Attentive servers and aesthetically pleasing décor alongside unforgettable food all create an experience that one must have when visiting the North Shore of Long Island.

When you arrive, enjoy a “Mortini” at the bar or select a glass of wine from their carefully curated wine list.

Morton’s Legendary Hot Chocolate Cake is a great end to your meal, or you can enjoy a traditional New York Cheesecake.

If you’re feeling guilty after this indulgent meal, they offer fresh raspberries or mixed berries as a dessert option.

Morton’s accommodates all of their guests with a Gluten Sensitive menu and a Soy Sensitive menu.

Rothmann's Steakhouse

6319 Northern Blvd. East Norwich, NY

If you want to be surrounded by history along with high-quality juicy steaks, Rothmann’s Steakhouse is the perfect destination for a steak dinner. The restaurant opened its doors back in 1907 and was run by Charles and Franziska Rothmann. From there on, the restaurant became a magnet for celebrities, politicians, and other important people. In fact, you will be interested to find out that the place was once Burt Bacharach’s choice restaurant during the 1970s.

Some of the most memorable dishes on their menu include the 24-ounce bone-in rib steak and the porterhouse steak grilled to perfection.

You can also enjoy some special “limited reserve” steaks like the wagyu tomahawk, Kobe burger, and the Kobe strip steak. If you are not red-meat inclined, you can choose the lobster, house sushi, grilled octopus, Kung Pao calamari and more.

You will also want to try Rothmann’s buffet brunch. Included in this indulgent start to your day is a sushi bar, omelette station, carving board, and virtually everything you could possibly imagine you’d want in a brunch.

650 Jericho Tpke. Syosset, NY

As one of the premier steakhouse and sushi bars on the North Shore of Long Island, Rare360 is a modern take on the traditional New York steakhouse experience. The modern aesthetics attract both business and casual diners looking for a lively social scene with great food.

Their classic 32-ounce T-bone along with their porterhouse steak for two, three or four are definitely the main dishes on the menu.

You can enhance the overall main with a side of equally flavorful roasted corn, hashed browns, or black truffle macaroni and cheese. If you prefer the Japanese menu, the mini Wagyu burger served with wasabi and ginger mayonnaise is a great alternative.

For seafood enthusiasts, choose one of the house sushi rolls, the surf and turf, a whole branzino, and the Atlantic halibut. Regardless of choice, the overall ambiance of the restaurant creates an unforgettable dining experience – one that convinces you that dining on the North Shore of Long Island is an amazing experience.
