5 North Shore Marinas: Heaven on Long Island!

Having a boat on the North Shore of Long Island is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Over the last 30 years, I’ve spent countless hours in my driveway washing my boat and preparing it for an afternoon on the Long Island Sound with my wife and family.

I love washing my boat and preparing it for the water; for me, it’s therapeutic.  You see, I’m a “gear-head”. I love tinkering with the engine and with all of the boat’s mechanical components. Most people, however, simply want to put their boat in the water in mid-April and leave it there until the winter, only spending time on the leisurely aspects of owning a boat.

If this is you, I’ve profiled 5 marinas on the North Shore of Long Island that provide amazing facilities to dock your boat along with countless amenities that make owning and maintaining a boat as stress-free as possible.

Safe Harbor’s Glen Cove Yacht Yard is located at 128 Shore Road in Glen Cove, NY.  The amenities include free WiFi, pumpout facilities, heads & showers, laundry, ice, barbecue grills, a picnic area, and a swimming pool.  Glen Cove offers a tremendous variety of restaurants nearby, with the Lighthouse Restaurant on-site and dozens of other restaurants within a short drive.

The Harry Tappen Pool, Beach & Marina is located on Shore Road in Glenwood Landing, NY.  The marina’s amenities include a pump-out station and a launch ramp. There is also a charming park on the water that includes a beach, a playground, bocce courts, a basketball court, and a public pool. Blu Iguana – a fun, modern Mexican restaurant on-site – offers unparalleled views of Hempstead Harbor and the Long Island Sound. Take an amazing walk along the promenade on Shore Road.  The views of Hempstead Harbor and the Long Island Sound at sunset are especially epic! This is also a popular spot for people who want to get their steps in.

Downtown Sea Cliff is a short drive if you want a larger selection of great restaurants after a day on the water.  Still Partners is a favorite Sea Cliff bar & restaurant that welcomes families.

Located at 5 Bay Avenue in Oyster Bay, NY, the Oyster Bay Marine Center offers seasonal and transient mooring, launch service, sailboat & rigging services, mechanical services, and woodworking services. Oyster Bay Yacht Sales is on site and is “Long Island’s Premiere Full Service Yachting Destination.” Downtown Oyster Bay has a number of great restaurants, and it’s a walkable town with a family.  Visit Canterbury’s Oyster Bay & Grill for a delicious meal & a great selection of drinks.  Carvel is down the block if you want to cool off with a soft-serve sundae or a classic milk shake.

Located at 15 Orchard Beach Blvd. in Port Washington, NY, Safe Harbor’s Capri Marina includes two adjoining facilities: Capri East & Capri West.  Great amenities and high quality yacht service are offered. There’s a swimming pool, showers & laundry, free WiFi, and a restaurant onsite. Butler’s Flat opens May 8th for the season and serves everything you’d want at a clam shack. Venture into downtown Port Washington if you want an amazing selection of high quality restaurants. Louie’s is a local favorite that serves great food with unobstructed views of Manhasset Bay.

Located at 10 Maticecock Avenue in Port Washington, the Manhasset Bay Marina can accommodate vessels up to 110’. The amenities include fuel, mechanical repair services, ice, restroom & showers, laundry, free WiFi, & 24 hour security. Winter inside, outside, & wet storage is available.  Manhasset Bay Marina has been family owned and operated for over 50 years by the LaMotta Family. LaMotta’s Restaurant & Patio Bar is onsite, serving lunch & dinner from May to October. The marina’s location is a short 35 minutes from Manhattan. Beyond a great selection of restaurants, Port Washington offers waterfront parks, eclectic shops, & cultural events.
